Workday Description:

We will be working on projects designed to prevent catastrophic fire. Projects are of the greatest priority need and may include: constructing burn piles for prescribed fires at sites in the wildland/urban interface (WUI), identified as potential areas of severe fire.  Projects may include moving mitigation material (slash or downed limbs) or moving wood for chipping.  The work will protect homes, lives and the health of our forests. Our volunteers will be moving material to an accessible location to be processed through the chipper. This critical work will help your group foster team spirit and a shared vision of forest health and disaster prevention.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Important Notes

  • ALL vehicles must remain at project site for the duration of the project
  • CUSP will provide hard hats, tools and materials necessary to complete project work
  • A portable restroom will be available on site
  • Safety review and work demonstration will precede the project work
  • Weather, which could create hazardous conditions, may cause projects to be canceled or rescheduled; we will notify you of changes promptly, changes will also be posted at: cusp.ws

What to Expect:
Green forest projects are located in exposed mountain environments. Please be aware and prepared for potential hazards, including but not limited to: driving on mountainous roads with snow, ice and/or loose gravel; exposure to sun, wind, lightning and rapidly changing weather conditions; possible falling trees; and hiking at significant elevation. Medications may have adverse effects in sun, heat or altitude.  Please list medications and medical conditions on the CUSP release form so staff may be aware of potential concerns. Know your limitations and inform staff immediately if you become ill or injured. Be prepared to exit quickly in the event of an emergency or changing environmental conditions. Please drink plenty of water prior to and during the project to avoid dehydration, which occurs rapidly at high elevation and dry climate. Please wear appropriate clothing.

Please note that cell phone coverage is limited in these areas.
Typical navigational GPS units are often inaccurate in mountainous regions as well.
