Workday Description:
Post fire flooding poses a major threat of damage to infrastructure, homes and lives in the Waldo Canyon Fire burn scar. Many sites in Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs and along Ute Pass, including US Highway 24, are highly vulnerable to flood impacts. Project work could include tasks requiring varying skill levels, including: stabilizing sediment catchment basins by installing straw wattles, jute matting, log erosion barriers. We may also rehab sites of construction by re-contouring hill slopes, raking and reseeding native vegetation. Depending on changing needs in the corridor we may also be utilizing volunteers for sandbagging projects for home protection. These treatments are crucial in reducing future flood damage.
All work is dependent upon environmental factors – unpredictable weather, runoff and soil movement may alter project and location details.
Important Notes:
*CUSP will provide hard hats, tools and materials necessary to complete project work.
*Portable restroom(s) will be available on site.
*Safety review and work demonstration will precede the project work.
*Weather, which could create hazardous conditions, may cause projects to be canceled or rescheduled; we will notify you of changes promptly, changes will also be posted at this site
