Location
Meeting at: Divide Venture Food Market

Category(ies)

We will caravan from meeting location about 10 minutes to the project site.  Prior to the project we will send a cell number for the crew leader to contact if you are unable to attend last minute.  Only two volunteers are needed on each day.

Please note, if conditions are right for prescribed fire, this project will be canceled to allow crew to burn.

Workday Description:

Difficulty Level: Strenuous.  This will involve a 1/3 mile hike in snow, up and down multiple hills.

We will be pulling slash (downed wood, limbs and branches) and building burn piles in a heavily wooded area north of Divide.  “Field Crew Member for a Day” indicates that this project will be a bit faster paced and we will all need to pay close attention to situational awareness – the crew will be using chainsaws nearby.  Please be very prepared for the snow; carry extra shoes, water and carrying gear with you, including lunch.  This is a “no frills” workday, yet a great workout!

Important Notes:

  • CUSP will provide hard hats, tools and materials necessary to complete project work
  • A portable restroom will NOT be available on site
  • Safety review and work demonstration will precede the project work
  • Weather, which could create hazardous conditions, may cause projects to be canceled or rescheduled; changes will be posted at this site

Requirements of Volunteers:

All volunteers must complete and submit prior to the project (please print and bring on the project day): CUSP 2015 Release Form.

Please print this two sided.

Please Bring:
Any applicable medicines (including epi-pens, insulin and inhalers)
Sunscreen
Sun glasses or safety glasses
Work gloves
Sturdy shoes with tread; dry shoes for the ride home are a good idea
Gators, if you have them
Long pants are required; long sleeved shirts are strongly recommended
A coat and layered clothing
Water containers, enough water for the day
Sack lunches, to carry with you

We will not be returning to vehicles until the end of the day – please carry your gear with you.

What to Expect:
This area is in an exposed mountain environment.  Please be aware and prepared for potential hazards, including but not limited to: driving on mountainous roads with loose gravel and high flash flood potential; exposure to sun, wind, lightning and rapidly changing weather conditions; working with sharpened tools in areas with unstable terrain and footing; possible falling trees; and hiking at significant elevation.  Medications may have adverse effects in sun, heat or altitude.  Please list medications and medical conditions on the CUSP release form so staff may be aware of potential concerns. Know your limitations and inform staff immediately if you become ill or injured.  Be prepared to exit quickly in the event of an emergency or changing environmental conditions. Please drink plenty of water prior to and during the project to avoid dehydration.  Please wear appropriate clothing; clothing may become stained or ruined.   This is a challenging project requiring teamwork.

Please note that cell phone coverage is very limited in this area.
GPS units are often inaccurate in this area as well.
