Workday Description:

CUSP has expanded into more project work in the Northern Part of the watershed. This project, only miles from Denver is a cooperative venture between CUSP and Denver Mountain Parks. Birch Hill is an open space owned by Denver Mountain Parks that is in the final stages of thinning to prevent catastrophic fire and a healthier forest more resistant to insects and disease. Project work will include piling dropped trees, building piles for mastication, and some limbing/removal of ladder fuels.

All work is dependent upon environmental factors – unpredictable weather, runoff and soil movement may alter project and location details.

Important Notes:

  • CUSP will provide hard hats, tools and materials necessary to complete project work.
  • Portable restroom(s) will be available on site.
  • Safety review and work demonstration will precede the project work.
  • Pets are not allowed on CUSP projects
  • Weather, which could create hazardous conditions, may cause projects to be canceled or rescheduled; we will notify you of changes in a timely manner; changes will also be posted at this website.

What to Expect:

This area has undergone recent logging operations to thin the forest for health and fire mitigation reasons. The terrain is steep and the ground is littered with logs and slash. Your efforts will help to insure a speedy recovery of the forest and its ecosystem. The work level is considered strenuous. Please list medications and medical conditions on the CUSP release form so staff may be aware of potential concerns. Know your limitations and inform staff immediately if you become ill or injured. Be prepared to exit quickly in the event of an emergency or changing environmental conditions. Please drink plenty of water prior to and during the project to avoid dehydration. Please wear appropriate clothing; clothing may become stained or ruined. Expectant mothers should check with their physicians prior to joining the project.  The minimum age requirement is 16.

Location information will be sent upon successful registration. Please be patient, as this is not an automated process. The later you book, the later the locations details will arrive.
