At Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument

Workday: Friday, August 5th, 2016

Project Location: Florissant Fossil Beds

Difficulty Rating: Easy/Moderate

Project Times: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Meeting Location:  Florissant Fossil Beds Visitor Center

Workday Description:
The Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is one of our communities prize protected areas. The Fossil Beds showcase an ancient history very different from our climate and ecosystem today. The story it tells includes ancient volcanos, their eruptions and red wood forests fossilizing a picture for us of an ecosystem and wildlife long ago. The Fossil Beds houses 14 miles of hiking trails over hills, through valleys, riparian areas and wet lands. Protecting and maintaining these trails is a great way to give back to the public lands we love.

Medications may have adverse effects in sun, heat or altitude.  Please list medications and medical conditions on the CUSP release form so staff may be aware of potential concerns. Know your limitations and inform staff immediately if you become ill or injured. Be prepared to exit quickly in the event of an emergency or changing environmental conditions. Please drink plenty of water prior to and during the project to avoid dehydration, which occurs rapidly at high elevation and dry climate. Please wear appropriate clothing.
