Workday Descriptions:

CUSP’s projects are closely aligned with our vision of healthy watersheds, now and into the future.  Your group will have the opportunity to help with diverse projects.  All work is dependent upon environmental factors; unpredictable weather, runoff and soil movement will determine exact locations and work details.  Projects will be of the greatest priority need and may include:  wildfire restoration, flood mitigation, constructing burn piles for prescribed fires; trail maintenance; stream restoration, rehabbing road closures; re-seeding disturbed soils; mitigating noxious weeds to improve aquatic and wildlife habitat; or creating erosion barriers protecting homes or sensitive riparian areas.  Your efforts will minimize impacts from post wildfire runoff that affects water supplies, homes and lives. This work is serious, yet the projects are fun and challenging, while fostering team spirit and a shared vision of preservation.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

More project information can be found at:  CUSP2013 Vol Events

Important Notes:

CUSP will provide hard hats, tools and materials necessary to complete project work.
Restroom(s) will be available on site.
Safety review and work demonstration will precede all project work.
Project end times may fluctuate according to the discretion of leaders:  weather , fire or fatigue, for example, may shorten a project day.  Your safety is our foremost priority.

What to Expect:

Wildland burn areas are located in an exposed mountain environments. Please be aware and prepared for potential hazards, including but not limited to: driving on mountainous roads with loose gravel and high flash flood potential; exposure to sun, wind, lightening and rapidly changing weather conditions; working with sharpened tools in areas with unstable terrain and footing; possible falling trees; hiking at significant elevation. Medications may have adverse effects in sun, heat or altitude, please list medications and medical conditions on the CUSP release form so staff may be aware of potential concerns. Know your limitations and inform staff immediately if you become ill or injured. Be prepared to exit quickly in the event of an emergency or changing environmental conditions. Please drink plenty of water prior to and during the project to avoid dehydration. Please wear appropriate clothing; clothing may become stained or ruined.

These are moderately physically challenging projects in potentially rugged territory.  To provide the greatest level of safety and productivity for your group, participants should have a fitness level equivalent to being able to walk a 1/4 mile uphill at 8500′ altitude. Alternative project work will be scheduled for those with limited abilities when CUSP is provided with advance notice.  If any member of your team has a medical condition of which we should be aware, please contact: Lisa@uppersouthplatte.org.

Please note that cell phone coverage is limited in the mountains; the below office number may be used as an emergency contact number. GPS units are often inaccurate in mountainous regions.

Please print all documents two sided.
