Workday Description:

In light of recent and tragic fires, the Hayman Fire of 2002 may seem a distant memory, but serious issues continue from the largest fire in Colorado’s history. The Hayman fire was 138,000 acres. One persistent issue is noxious weeds; these are invasive species that “move in” vigorously after a fire. They take advantage of disturbed areas and out-compete the native vegetation.  This impacts the ecosystem as a whole in a negative way.

The Upper South Platte watershed provides for over 75% of Colorado’s municipal, industrial, and agricultural water needs. Project work will include clipping and bagging seed pods of these invasive species and severing roots to prevent future propagation.  Please join us to help minimize damage to Colorado’s precious water supply.

Know your limitations and inform staff immediately if you become ill or injured. Be prepared to exit quickly in the event of an emergency or changing environmental conditions.  Please drink plenty of water prior to and during the project to stay hydrated.

GPS systems and Internet map sites are often misleading in the mountains. Cell phone service will be inconsistent or not available.
