Workday Description:
Post fire flooding poses a major threat of damage to homes, lives and infrastructure in the Waldo Canyon Fire burn scar.  Many sites along US Highway 24 and Fountain Creek have been identified as highly vulnerable to flood impacts.

All work is dependent upon prioritized needs and environmental factors – unpredictable weather, runoff and soil movement will determine project and location details. Volunteers may be working directly in the creek or on uneven hillsides; you will be notified if waterproof gear is needed.  Project work will include one or more of the following:

  • Removing debris and potentially dangerous structures from properties; relocating items to higher ground or off site
  • Re-vegetation of hill slopes
  • Installing erosion control wattles, straw bale structures or log erosion barriers
  • Building sandbag barriers
  • Raking of aerial seeding around sediment retention ponds
  • Constructing rock gabion baskets

Important Notes:
CUSP will provide hard hats, tools and materials necessary to complete project work.
A restroom will be available on site.
Safety review and work demonstration will precede the project work.
